Delores was born on May 29, 1948, in Jackson, Michigan, the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Kenneth and Margaret (French) Stine. Delores graduated in 1966 from Napoleon High School. After high school, she went on to obtain her undergraduate degree from Central Michigan University, as well as her masters degree from Michigan State University. She worked as a kindergarten and second grade teacher for the Mt. Morris School District, providing over 30 years of service to the community until her well-earned retirement in 2009. She married Larry Smith on November 28, 1992, and the two shared over 10 years of memories they both would cherish forever. Sadly, Larry preceded her in passing on May 2, 2003. Delores would later meet Frank Gyorkos, and the two were united in marriage on April 15, 2023 in Clio. Frank would precede her in passing as well on May 14, 2025. Delores was blessed with three children: Jennifer, Cynthia, and Benjamin, along with many others she would protect, care for, and guide.
Delores was well known in Clio through her various community involvements. She loved all aspects of theater and would provide a large amount of her time to the Clio Cast and Crew, assisting with many different plays, including the infamous yellow brick road in their rendition of ‘The Wizard of Oz.’ Every year during the holiday season, she would assist with the production of the Clio Cast and Crew Show-to-Go Singers Christmas show. She also was a long time member of Messiah Lutheran Church Hand Bell Choir. In her later years, she would often attend service at the Tyrone Community Presbyterian Church with her late husband, Frank Gyorkos.
In her free time, Delores enjoyed reading, playing card games, board games, or completing different puzzles. She also would express her creativity outside of the theater by creating scrapbooks. Most of all, she cherished the time spent with her family and friends.
Left to cherish her memory are her children: Jennifer (Christian) Riendeau, Cynthia (Donald) Head, and Benjamin (Katie) Murray; her grandchildren: Katie, Zachary, Amy (Kynan), Brianna, Thomas (Alex), Hunter, Jordan, Rylee, Rachel, Luke, Joseph, James, Samuel, and Amelia; her great-grandchildren: Poppy, Violet, and Lily; her step-daughter, Shelli (Talli) Gyorkos; her “sisters”: Sylvia, Kay, and Julie; her dearest friends: Jan, Elaine, and Felicia; as well as many beloved cousins.
Delores was preceded in death by her husbands: Larry Smith and Frank Gyorkos; and her parents: Kenneth and Margaret Stine. |
