WOODS, Gary A. – of Flint, MI, age 67, passed away Saturday, April 19, 2025. A Funeral Service will be held 11 AM on Friday, April 25, 2025 at Pilgrim Lutheran Church, 3222 South Genesee Road, Burton, MI 48519; Pastor Mark Matheny officiating. Cremation will take place following the service. The family will receive visitors 1-7 PM on Thursday, April 24, 2025 at Allen Funeral Home, 9136 Davison Road, Davison, MI 48423 and at 10 AM on Friday at Pilgrim Lutheran Church. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Pilgrim Lutheran Church, in Gary’s memory.
Gary Woods was born on January 21, 1958, in Flint, Michigan, the beloved son of the late Robert and Katherine (Jozwiak) Woods, Jr. He passed away with the same quiet strength and generosity he lived by. A proud graduate of Atherton High School, Gary was a multi-sport athlete, playing football, basketball, and baseball. On June 23, 1984, he married the love of his life, Heidi Lockrey. Gary began a dedicated 30-year career at General Motors, retiring in 2006. He was a proud member of UAW Local 598 and known for his tireless work ethic—not only on the job but also at home, where he was always fixing, building, or lending a hand. Gary bled maize and blue—an avid University of Michigan fan who rarely missed a football or basketball game, especially when cheering alongside his longtime friends Dave and Mike. He also had a deep love for the Detroit Tigers, classic rock, and the sounds of Motown. Family meant everything to Gary. He was a proud father and grandfather who found great joy in spending time with his grandkids—whether at the Genesee County Fair, the Kids Crim Run, or simple days filled with laughter and love. Summers were often spent in and around his backyard swimming pool, the heart of many family gatherings and cherished memories. Generous with his time, kind in spirit, and strong in character, Gary leaves behind a legacy of love, loyalty, and quiet strength. He will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.
Gary is survived by his loving wife, Heidi Woods; children Mitchel Woods and Brianna (Zachary) Rensberry; grandchildren: Evan and Avery Rensberry; siblings, Jacqueline Finton and Georgia Woods; good friends: Dave Kelsey, Mike Dawson, Ron Green, and Harlen Foley; many other loving family members and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, Robert and Katherine Woods, Jr.; sisters: Linda Arrand and Gwendolyn Woods; brother-in-law, William Finton, Jr.; and nephew, Alex Simpson; mother and father-in-law, Glen and Shirley Lockrey.
