WHITMAN, Barbara J. (Craine) – of Burton, MI, age 88, passed away Monday, May 17, 2021 at Ascension Genesys Hospital. A Private Funeral Service will be held at Allen Funeral Home, 9136 Davison Road, Davison, MI 48423; Rev. Harold K. Polk, Jr. officiating. Cremation will take place following the service. The family will receive visitors 4:00-7:00 PM Friday, May 21, 2021 at Allen Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Genesee District Library’s Talking Books Program to benefit the blind in Barbara’s memory.
Barbara was born in Flint, MI on August 28, 1932, daughter of the late Louis and Hazel (Clark) Craine. She married Charles F. Whitman in 1950 and he preceded her in death on April 4, 2021. Barbara was employed with General Motors for 10 years. She was a home room mother at her children’s school, all those years ago. She was a member of the Eastern Star and proud vocal member of the Flint Generals Booster Club. Barb enjoyed crafts, sewing, knitting and crocheting. She enjoyed traveling and music. Barb was an avid reader and even after losing her eyesight, she enjoyed audio books tremendously. She loved family activities, especially those that focused on her. She lit up our Christmas parties with her lighted sweaters and loud scary Santa hat. She would enter the room proclaiming, “I’m Here!” and throwing her arms out wide in her grand announcement. Barb loved her family and really enjoyed her one-on-one time with her grandchildren. She enjoyed 71 years beside the love of her life, husband Charles who passed away last month… Chuck and Barb are together again, as she runs into his arms she announces, “I’m Here!”
Barbara is survived by 5 children, Larry Whitman of Davison, MI, Jean (Mac) McField of Ft. Pierce, FL, Duane (Ann) Whitman of Otisville, MI, Bruce (Karen) Whitman of Grand Blanc, MI and Debbie (Charlie) Grosvenor of Byron, MI; 12 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; 3 great-great-grandchildren; many other loving family members and friends, including “adopted” daughter, Arlene Ross and her family of Grand Blanc, MI. Barbara was preceded in death by her parents, Louis and Hazel Craine; husband, Charles F. Whitman; daughter-in-law, Ellen Whitman; grandson, Eric Whitman and her siblings.
The family wishes to extend a special thank you to Dr. Romel Aquino for his kind treatment of Barbara and to the staff at Ascension Genesys Hospital.
