Barbara was born in Davison, MI, March 30, 1936, the daughter of Lloyd and Augusta Richter. Barbara grew up in Flint and had many pleasant memories of the pony that her father bought her and spending her summers with relatives in Mio, MI and Ontario, Canada. She graduated from Mandeville High School and U of M Flint with her degree in education.
After graduation, Barbara worked in the office at Ternstedt where she met and then married her husband of 60 years, Gerald Lawrence, on September 28, 1957. She taught elementary grades at Hamady Schools and Genesee Christian for many years. Barbara led Sunday School and AWANA at West Suburban Bible Church and was a faithful member at Trinity Baptist in Flushing for the past three decades. She also enjoyed many years of ministering to the residents of Woodhaven at their monthly singspiration.
She served her community as a volunteer tax preparer for 25 years, a Girl Scout leader, and an election worker. Barbara was a dedicated member of the Flint Children’s Museum (holding one of two lifetime memberships ever issued) and arranged countless visits to the museum with grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Barbara and her husband sought to instill Biblical values and a strong work ethic in their 13 grandchildren by purchasing and operating Coyner’s Blueberries in Flushing, running it for 25 years, with their daughter Sue joining them in the later years.
Throughout her life, Barbara loved talking with, encouraging, and praying for countless people. She had a delightful sense of humor and was an amazing conversationalist. Barbara intentionally loved and invested in all whom she met and knew. Her life was spent delighting in those that she loved and sharing Jesus with everyone. To God be the glory, great things He has done! Proverbs 3:5-6.
