NEWBERRY, Rhonda L. - Of Flint Township, age 63, died Saturday, July 30, 2016 at her residence.
Visitation 12pm Thursday until the time of the service at the funeral home.
Funeral service will be held 2pm Thursday, August 4, 2016 at the Swartz Funeral Home, 1225 West Hill Road, Flint.
Per Rhonda’s wishes, cremation will take place following the service.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be directed to ASPCA or the Genesee County Humane Society.
Rhonda was born in Flint on May 6, 1953, the daughter of the late Donna Newberry, step-father, Harold Cherry and adoptive daughter of the late Albert and Fannie Newberry. Rhonda married Edward Markel on May 1, 1981 in Flint and he preceded her in death in April, 2001. She received her Nursing Degrees (BA and MSN) from the University of Michigan. Rhonda loved traveling, animals, teaching and spending time with family and friends and was extraordinarily generous with people and had a marvelous sense of humor. Her last years were spent teaching Psychiatric Nursing at Mott Community College where she was well respected by faculty and students.
Surviving are children, Amber and Patrick;
In-laws, Rick (Debbie) Markel and Alan (Rachael) Markel;
Many nieces, nephews and loving friends;
And her dog, Dixie.
