Marshall was born in Flint, MI on November 3, 1965, son of the late Ernest and Beatrice (Hoover) Boyd. Marshall was a graduate of Kearsley High School’s Class of 1984, where he formed many lifelong friendships and memories. His commitment to personal growth and education remained a guiding force throughout his life. Demonstrating that it is never too late to pursue one’s goals, Marshall returned to the classroom and earned his Bachelor of Business Administration degree from Northwood University in 2017. This achievement reflected his determination, perseverance, and belief in the value of lifelong learning. His dedication to bettering himself served as an inspiration to those who knew and loved him, leaving a lasting example of hard work, resilience, and the pursuit of dreams at any stage of life. Marshall built a long and respected career as a pipe fitter, earning the admiration of those around him through his dedication, leadership, and work ethic. Through years of hard work and determination, he rose through the company to become an assistant plant manager, a role that reflected both his skill and character.
Outside of work, Marshall truly came alive in the outdoors. He had a deep love for hunting, fishing, and caring for the land he treasured so much. He dedicated his time to leaving the outdoors better than he found it, and he took immense pride in sharing that passion with his family. His beloved “property” was one of his greatest joys, and the memories made there will continue for generations, especially through his grandsons, August and Theodore, whom he loved sharing the outdoors with. Marshall also had a lifelong passion for hockey and golf. He spent many years coaching youth hockey, including coaching his son Matthew and countless other young athletes whose lives he impacted both on and off the ice. His commitment to the sport extended beyond coaching, as he proudly served on the board of the Michigan Amateur Hockey Association. Whether on the golf course or at the hockey rink, Marshall brought people together with his humor, energy, and love of life. He was incredibly funny, loved to laugh, and never passed up a chance to have a great time. He was always ready to join the party, enjoy a good golf scramble, and create memories with family and friends. One of his greatest joys was cheering Danielle on as she played golf, walking the course beside her and spending time together doing something they both loved. Danielle also had the unforgettable privilege of witnessing Marshall achieve his first hole-in-one, followed by a celebratory round at one of his favorite places, Flint Elks Golf Club. Marshall will be remembered as an amazing husband, a devoted father, and an even better “Papa.” He leaves behind a legacy rooted in love for the outdoors, treating everyone with respect, showing up for family no matter what, and teaching those around him countless life lessons — how to build things, fix things, work hard, and appreciate the simple moments that matter most. His warmth, laughter, wisdom, and unwavering love will live on in the hearts of all who knew him.
Marshall is survived by his wife of 38 years, Tammy Boyd; 2 children, Danielle (Nicholas) Killoran and Matthew Boyd; 2 grandsons, August and Theodore and his aunt, Sandra (Beryl) Sedrick. He was preceded in death by his parents, Ernest and Beatrice Boyd.
