Keith was born on September 13, 1942 as the only child of Clyde and Edith Burba in Kenton, Ohio. It was there that Keith became steeped in the Buckeye tradition, a love that would continue throughout his life.

After graduating from Kenton High School in 1961, Keith moved to Bourbonnais, Illinois to attend Olivet Nazarene University. Keith met the love of his life at Olivet; he saw Linda Rice holding her niece in the aftermath of a devastating tornado and told himself, “I’m going to marry that girl.” He did, a year later, on August 29, 1964.

The following year, 1965, Keith graduated from ONU with a B.A. in Education. He immediately enrolled in the University of Illinois and earned an M.Ed. while teaching in a local Kankakee school.

After Linda graduated from ONU, Keith and Linda moved to the boomtown of Flint, Michigan, where they got jobs in the Carman-Ainsworth schools in 1967. While teaching at Ainsworth High School, Keith attended Eastern Michigan University and earned an Sp.Ed. in Administration. After earning his degree, Keith took positions as Assistant Principal and Principal in the Beecher School District.

In 1974, Keith moved to the Flushing School District to become the Principal at Elms Elementary. The 16 years he spent at Elms were the highlight of his career. Beloved by teachers, parents, and students alike, Keith was known for his annual Ohio State–Michigan School Assembly where he would give free popcorn to any student that was brave enough to wear Scarlet and Grey to school that day. Keith was promoted to Assistant Superintendent of Flushing Schools in 1990. While he was proud of the scholastic achievements that the schools achieved during his tenure, his passion was hiring talented young teachers into the district. Keith retired from Flushing Schools in 2002, completing 37 years in public school education.
Keith’s family started in 1970, and it was all boys. Jeffrey, their first, died in a tragic accident when he was three years old. Mike and Matt, the twins, followed, and Mark was last. Keith was the consummate father. He wrestled with them every day (until he couldn’t pin them anymore), attended every game of basketball, football, and baseball they ever played, and modeled what it means to be a man of God.

The most important part of Keith’s life was his relationship with Jesus Christ, his Lord and Savior. A lifelong member of the Church of the Nazarene, Keith served his home church, Flint Central, for more than 50 years. He loved teaching the Young Marrieds Sunday School class and organizing the Men’s Golf League. He also built lifelong friendships in the church that he treasured until his last day.

Keith is now joyously reunited in heaven with his son, Jeffrey, his parents Clyde and Edith, and several brothers-in-law and sister-in-law. His family here eagerly awaits our reunion with him; including his wife, Linda, his boys, Matt (Kathie), Mike (Kerri), and Mark (Kari), his grandchildren, Ally, Annie, Meghan, Abby, Kate, Khloe, Kelsea, Mack, Margo, and Maddox, and his step-grandchildren Hannah, Ethan, Chase, and Landon.
