Ronald “Jim” Dinkens, age 78, of Lapeer, passed away peacefully on August 20, 2026. He was born on December 21, 1947, in Senath, Missouri.
As a young boy, his family moved to Michigan in search of a better life. He attended Flint Central High School and eventually began working for General Motors.
Jim was a hardworking family man who took great pride in his work and in the people he loved. He retired from Buick GMC after 35 years of service, where he worked as a machinist and paint booth specialist.
Everyone knew Jim’s love of John Deere tractors. He shared his love of antiques and tractors with his family and created many amazing friendships through countless volunteer hours at Crossroads Village. Jim and Karen were granted lifetime passes to the Village and Huckleberry Railroad.
He was an avid pool player (some say he was a pool shark) and was often known to “run the table.” Jim enjoyed repairing small engines, hit-and-miss engines, go-karts, and mini bikes. He provided his girls and grandchildren with countless unforgettable memories of outdoor fun.
Jim will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.
Jim is survived by his wife of 57 years, Karen Dinkens (Tripp) of Lapeer; daughters, Julie (Walt) Buck of Davison and Kay (Bob) Peterson of Linden; grandchildren, Matthew, Brandon, and Blake; great-grandchildren, Elliona and Madison; and mother-in-law, Joyce Tripp.
Jim was preceded in death by his mother, Jean Dinkens; father, L.B. Dinkens; and father-in-law, Harold Tripp.
In keeping with the family’s wishes, cremation has been entrusted to Lynch & Sons Funeral Directors – Capstick Chapel in Lapeer. No services are planned at this time. |
