Burroughs, Marjorie Lucille, of Flushing, age 93, passed away on Friday, April 10, 2026, at Brookdale Assisted Living.
A private graveside service will be held at Sunset Hills Cemetery, with Pastor Paul Pfeuffer officiating.
Marjorie was born on July 20, 1932, in Emery, South Dakota, the daughter of the late Ben and Winifred (Crerar) Klinger. A true South Dakota farm girl, Marjorie grew up during the Great Depression, an experience that shaped her lifelong thrift and resilience. Among her many pioneering interests, she raised sheep, spun wool, and even dyed it using grapes she grew herself. A perfect example of self a sufficient way of living. Marjorie was united in marriage to Emmett N. Burroughs on January 21, 1953, in Bridgewater, South Dakota. She used her many talents to knit and sew clothing for her family, including cherished handmade socks. Marjorie found joy in quilting, gardening, needlepoint, wood burning, painting, and a variety of other crafts. She was happiest at home, embracing her role as a devoted homemaker.
Marjorie is survived by her children, Josephine Buterakos and Douglas Burroughs; grandchildren, Christopher (Sharron) Dubey, Emily (Matthew) England, Ben (Eva) Burroughs and Rachel (Jed) Burroughs; great-grandchildren, Aiden England, Adyson England, Olivia Dubey, Jordan Dortch and Jaleal Dortch.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Emmett; parents, Ben and Winifred Klinger; brothers, Don and Dave and sisters, Margaret and Hazel.
In lieu of flowers, donations in Marjorie’s memory are suggested to the Food Bank of Eastern Michigan. |
