ABRAMS, Richard B. - Age 90, of Swartz Creek, died Sunday, November 3, 2019 surrounded by his loving wife and family. Funeral services will be held 10:30 Thursday, November 7, at Swartz Creek United Methodist Church, 7400 Miller Road, Swartz Creek. Dr. Gary Glanville and JD Landis officiating. Burial to follow at Great Lakes National Cemetery, Holly. Visitation will be held 2PM-5PM and 7PM-9PM Wednesday at Sharp Funeral Homes, Miller Road Chapel, 8138 Miller Rd., Swartz Creek. Visitation will also be held 9:30AM Thursday until time of service at the church. Those desiring may make contributions to Swartz Creek United Methodist Church. Richard was born May 30, 1929 in Mineola, N.Y., the son of Percy and Mabel (Kimmel) Abrams. He married Aldine (Boots) in Durand on June 14, 1953. Richard proudly served his country in the U.S. Army, as a medic, stationed in Korea. Richard retired from General Motors with 33 years of service. After retirement he worked for Premium Design in Burton as a designer. Richard served on the City Council for 32 years and was also the Mayor of Swartz Creek for 10 years. He was a member of the Swartz Creek American Legion, Flint Male Chorus and Past President of Homeowners Association of Winchester Village. Richard also served on Administration Board at Swartz Creek United Methodist Church, the MTA Board of Directors, the Fang Board of Directors, Board of Directors for the Auto Theft Council and chairman of Swartz Creek Fire Board. Surviving are: wife of 66 years, Boots Abrams; daughters, Penny Louise (Michael) Messer, Sandra (Kenneth) Brill, grandchildren, Joseph (Jamie) Messer, Shannon (Robert) Huffman all of Swartz Creek, Richard (Stacey) Brill of Virginia, Kimberly (Doug) Clunis of Pinconning, Kenneth (Annamarie) Brill of Virginia; 13 great grandchildren; 5 great great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, Percy and Mabel Abrams; and brothers, Robert and Joel Abrams. Tributes may be posted at www.sharpfuneralhomes.com. |
