NICHOLS, Gailen – of Swartz Creek, age 92, passed away Tuesday, March 24, 2026, at Hurley Medical Center. A Funeral Service will be held 6 PM on Sunday, March 29, 2026, at Allen Funeral Home, 9136 Davison Rd., Davison, MI 48423; Rev. Dr. Paul Ytterock officiating. Cremation will take place following the service. The family will welcome visitors from 12 PM until the time of the service on Sunday. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to First Presbyterian Church, 746 South Saginaw Street, Flint, MI 48502 in Gailen’s memory.
Gailen Avery Nichols was born in Sagola, MI on May 29,1933, son of the late Carmo and Hazel (Woodin) Nichols. Gailen proudly served his country with the United States Army. He married Nancy Jacobs on June 13, 1959, at First Presbyterian Church in Flint, MI. She preceded him in death on May 6, 2023. Gailen retired from GM Truck & Bus in 1988. He was a dedicated family man and friend who would help anyone in need. Gailen will long be remembered for his “dad jokes”, and his wittiness when it came to making handmade trinkets to pass out. He was a lifelong member at Frist Presbyterian Church where he was involved with various activities, including the choir in his younger years. Above all else, family was most important to Gailen. He will be deeply missed.
Gailen is survived by his loving children, Lorene (James) Lorenzen, Crystal Garrido and Dale Nichols; 6 grandchildren, Gabriela, Jessica, Danielle, Travis, Ciara and Fritzi; 6 great-grandchildren; and many other loving family members and friends. In addition to his wife and his parents, Gailen was preceded in death by sister, Elaine Anderson; niece, Linda Von Zellen; and 2 nephews, Glen and Gary Fruik.
