ACKERMAN, Leroy J. – of Flint, MI, age 92, passed away Tuesday, May 29, 2018. A Funeral Service, with Military Honors, will be held 11 AM Friday, June 1, 2018 at Allen Funeral Home, 9136 Davison Road, Davison, MI 48423. Cremation will take place following the service. Burial of cremated remains will be in Evergreen Cemetery on a later date. The family will receive visitors 4-8 PM Thursday, May 31, 2018 and 10-11 AM Friday, June 1, 2018 at Allen Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the VFW Post #7435, in Leroy’s memory.
Leroy was born in Flint, MI on December 2, 1925, son of the late David Leroy and Ethel M. (McCann) Ackerman. He proudly served his country in the U.S. Army from 1944-1946. Leroy married Hazel Lou Brewer on September 6, 1947 and she preceded him in death on October 28, 2015. He retired as a Car Painter from Summerfield Chevrolet Company in 1982 after 40 years of service. Leroy was a longtime Boy Scout Leader and Boy Scout District Commissioner. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, woodworking and building projects. Leroy loved spending time with his family especially with his grandchildren.
Leroy is survived by 3 children, Marsha Ackerman, Gary (Sheryl) Ackerman and Bruce (Barbara) Ackerman; 5 grandchildren, Matt (Sarah), Ellyn, John, Jack and Taylor; 2 great-grandchildren, Michael and Jasper; brother, Don Ackerman; sister, Helen (David) Spence; many other loving family members and friends. He was preceded in death by brother, Wayne Ackerman; 2 sisters, Lorraine Lee and Marlene Hill.
