Marie A. Masud, of Frankenmuth, passed away peacefully surrounded by family and loved ones on March 23, 2026, at the age of 93. Marie was born on December 09, 1932, in Jacksonville, Ohio, to Fern Nora Buza (neé Michels) and Edward John Buza. She was the eldest of her siblings, John (“Jack”) Buza, Joan Voight, Eva Bonanno, and Michael Buza. Marie was a devoted nurse and businessperson whose lifelong passion was caring for others.
Marie's journey in healthcare began at St. Mary’s Nursing Program (class of 1954) in Saginaw. She then worked for Dr. Brender in Frankenmuth, providing in-home care and home deliveries. Over the next 20 years, she practiced nursing in Michigan and Illinois, going on to earn her Bachelor of Science in Nursing from Michigan State University (class of 1976) and Master of Science in Medical-Surgical Nursing from University of Michigan (class of 1979). Dedication and hard work brought her many professional successes, including serving as Nursing Director in Chicago’s Oak Park Hospital and helping establish the first coronary care, intensive care, and progressive care units in Saginaw, a testament to her vision for specialized, compassionate medical care.
Later in her career, Marie founded Medical Specialists Billing, offering medical billing services to local physicians. MSB grew to include a dedicated staff of eighteen, many of whom she championed in developing their career paths to become nurses and physician assistants themselves. Her colleagues remember her not just as a business owner, but as a supportive mentor.
Beyond her professional accomplishments, Marie was defined by her devotion to family and her quiet pursuit of knowledge and appreciation of nature. She found joy in her gardening, nurturing flowers with the same care she gave her patients. She was an avid reader who collected a small, personal library in her home. Surrounded by her beloved books, she would often share stories and wisdom gathered over a lifetime, with family and friends.
Preceded in death by her husband, Dr. Khan Z. Masud, she is survived by their three children: David Masud (spouse Amy Masud), Timothy Masud (spouse Michelle Masud), and Alexandria Masud; four grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
Following Marie’s wishes, her family will hold a private celebration of life this summer. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to MyMichigan Healthcare Foundation in recognition of Marie's lifelong commitment to nursing and education.
