SOTHEN, Galen Edward - age 82, of Swartz Creek, died October 2, 2021. Funeral services will be held 11 AM Saturday, October 9, 2021 at Sharp Funeral Homes, Miller Road Chapel, 8138 Miller Rd., Swartz Creek, MI 48473. Pastors David Mulherin, George Warson, and Michael Case officiating. Interment will follow at Crestwood Memorial Cemetery, Grand Blanc. Visitation will be held at the funeral home Friday from 5-9 PM and Saturday from 10 AM - 11 AM. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Hilltop Church of God, 3450 Larchmont Ave., Flint, MI 48532. Galen was born November 26, 1938 in Brookfield Twp. Ohio, the son of Herman Jacob and Helen Louise (McIntire) Sothen. He married Lura Madeline Tyson and she preceded him in death in 1976. He then married Freda Ann Mossholder and she preceded him in death in 2020. Galen retired from General Motors where he was a Quality Control Supervisor and Welder. He was a very involved member of Hilltop Church of God, where he was a Board Member and Treasurer. Galen enjoyed bowling in several different leagues, yard work, and traveling to hear gospel music. Surviving are: 7 children, Galen Sothen, Jr. of Ohio, Sherry (Sandy) Geren-Sothen of Texas, Gary (Karen) Sothen of Kentucky, Ron Sothen of Ohio, Jeannie (Kevin) Cummings of Swartz Creek, Kenny Tyson of Gaines, and Sharman Bennett of Swartz Creek; several grandchildren and great grandchildren; 4 sisters, Lois Zinn, Charlotte (Tim) Flood, Nellie Rainwater, and Marjorie Sothen, many nieces and nephews. He was also preceded in death by: one son, Clata Tyson; two sisters, Elsie McHenry and Doris Sothen. Tributes may be shared at www.sharpfuneralhomes.com. |
