SANFORD, Gary K. – of Millington, formerly of Flint, age 88, died peacefully on Friday, August 7, 2026, at his residence. Honoring his wishes, cremation will take place and there will be no service at this time. In lieu of flowers, those desiring may make memorial contributions to the family for future designation.
Gary was born on December 6, 1937, in Bay City, to the late Russell Sanford and Thelma (Sohmer) Pettengill. He graduated from Lakeville High School and went on to honorably serve his country in the United States Army. Following his military service, Gary dedicated 25 years to serving and protecting the City of Flint as a police officer. Even after retiring from the department, his commitment to the safety of others continued through his work as a security officer at Baker College in Flint. In 1971, Gary married his beloved wife, Sharron Luttrell, and together they shared 55 wonderful years of marriage. He was a member of the Millington Golf Club and a former member of the FOP. Gary loved golfing – especially at Willow Springs Golf and Country Club, but nothing compared to spending time with family. He was a wonderful man who can never be replaced, and he will be dearly missed by those who knew him.
Gary is forever remembered by: Wife, Sharron; Children: Scott (Carla), Jill, Michelle, and Donald (Karen); 15 Grandchildren and many great-grandchildren; Brother-in-law, Robert (Judy) Luttrell, Jr. and Pamela (Jeff) Wetherford; Several nieces, nephews, extended family, and wonderful friends. Gary was preceded in death by: Son, Greg; Father and Mother-in-law, Robert and Ruth Luttrell, Sr. |
