Virginia “Ginny” Johnstone, of Traverse City, passed away peacefully Tuesday evening, Oct. 19, 2010, at Munson Medical Center.
She was born to Charles and Mable Kelley on Jan. 3, 1922, and spent most of her life in the Detroit area. She married Richard T. Johnstone on Nov. 8, 1942. They retired to Omena and later to Traverse City.
Ginny loved to travel and acquired many antiques while living in England and India. She also was an excellent cook and experimented with new and exotic recipes to entertain family and friends.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 66 years, Dick; her parents; and her four brothers.
Ginny is survived by her daughters, Ricki Rosensweet, of Bali, and Jill Nylander, of Sarasota, Fla.; and sons Gregory (Jennifer) Johnstone, of Traverse City, and Tim (Laurel Levine) Johnstone, of Auburn Hills; one granddaughter; five grandsons; and five great-grandchildren.
Her wishes were to be cremated. A memorial service will be held in the spring.
