COPLIN, Samuel – of Davison, age 86, passed away on Wednesday, July 15, 2026.
A Funeral Service will be held at 11 AM Tuesday, July 21, 2026, at St. Dunstan’s Episcopal Church, 1523 N. Oak Road, Davison, MI, 48423; Pastor Sue Colavincenzo officiating. Interment will take place following the service in Crestwood Memorial Cemetery. The family will receive visitors 4-7 PM Monday, July 20, 2026 at Allen Funeral Home, 9136 Davison Road, Davison, MI 48423. There will also be one hour for quiet visitation prior to the service at the church on Tuesday. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Bread for the World, Oxfam or St. Dunstan’s Episcopal Church.
Samuel has lived in Davison since 1991, formerly of Grand Blanc and Flint, MI. He was born to Samuel Lee and Thelma Olivia Coplin on April 19, 1940. Sam married his childhood sweetheart Dixie Lee Whitinger in 1957. She preceded him in death, in 1982. He married the new love of his life and best friend, Darylee Irene Peacock in October 1983. Sam graduated from Flint Bentley High School in 1958 and General Motors Institute (Kettering University) in 1963 with a BSEE. He was employed by GM/Delphi for 45 years at Chevrolet Flint-Manufacturing, AC Flint and Delphi Troy, MI; retiring in 2003 as Superintendent Facilities Engineering. One of his greatest pleasures was planting trees and observing wildlife on their 10-acre homestead. Fun times were bike riding in the Davison Park trails and Anna Maria Island. He enjoyed reading all the Pulitzer Prize-winning fiction novels, playing cards and games with family and friends. He was part of the church family at St. Dunstan’s Episcopal Church for 43 years, serving on the Vestry with facilities responsibilities for many years. He especially enjoyed travel with Darylee visiting their beautiful Michigan, Alaska, Paris, and Seoul, often with grandchildren as companions. One of his greatest joys was the time spent with children, many grand and great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews. He considered it a great privilege to be a dad, grandpa, and uncle. He was a super companion to his beloved pets Shumbalee, Shedopurr and Moxie.
Samuel is survived by his loving wife Darylee of 43 years and their children: Karen Coplin of Grand Blanc, MI; Sue Wray of Grand Blanc, MI; Rhonda Golden (Britton Harris) of St. Louis, MO; Maria Camacho of Everett, WA; Amy Coplin of West Orange, NJ; Sima and Dr. Homer Jamasbi of Lansdale, PA; Tom (Karen) Coplin of Frankfort, KY; Jamie (Dianne) Coplin of Lennon, MI; Rob (Tracey Farley) Coplin of Lake Placid, Fl; Chris (George Kinghorn) Coplin of Bangor, ME; and Nathan (Subarna Saha) Coplin of Silver Spring, MD; grandchildren: Aaron (Mindi), Greg, Tara (Tim), Garett (Miranda), Maegan (Osvaldo), Skyler, Abbey (Richard), Jamie (Royce), Jacob, Lauren (Trevor), Matthew (Alec), Jordan, Charles, Chase, Amy (Anja), Bobby, Desiree, Kian and Shakela; great-grandchildren: Ryanne (Malia), Adrian (Aaron), Gavin (Kiaya), Ethan, Cutler, Isaac, Gavin, Arianna, Mila, Cash, Tommy, Nova, Dylan, Lilly and Gerelle; great-great grandchildren; Alayna, Kayson, Eleanor, Ellie, Laila and Beau; sister, Helen (Don) Westphal of Oakland; sisters-in-law: Georgia Hense of Grand Blanc, Elise Anderson, of Olympia, WA, Brenda Beatty of Youngstown, AZ, and Carol Warle of Grand Rapids and Debbie Whitinger of WI, son-in-law, Ron Wray of Flint Township; special nephews: Brian Zurla and Todd Anderson; special nieces Jeni (Kaitlyn) Crandell and Hannah Perez. Plus, many other cherished family and friends.
Samuel was preceded in death by his parents Samuel Lee and Thelma Olivia Coplin; father and mother-in-law, Wayne (Alberta) Whitinger; father and mother-in law, Harvey (Pearl) Warle; brother David Coplin; his wife of 25 years Dixie Lee Coplin and their first born, Mark Wayne Coplin; aunt Judy and uncle Ralph Dimond of Flint and brothers-in-law, Dallas Whitinger, Bill Hence and Cliff Warle.
