THOMAS, Rodney Lyle – of Clio, age 76, died Saturday, August 2, 2025 at his residence. Honoring Rodney’s wishes, cremation has taken place and a graveside service will be held with military honors at a later date. Memorial contributions can be made to the family for future designation.
Rodney was born December 6, 1948 in Port Huron, Michigan to the late Lyle and Alta (Watson) Thomas. He grew up in Beecher and graduated from Beecher High School with the class of 1967. Rodney proudly served his country in the US Army from 1969 to 1970. On May 4, 1984 he married Denice Huff in Caro, Michigan. Rodney owned and operated Signs Etc. for over 20 years, worked for ABC Gutters for 5 years and finished his career as a Custodian for Grand Blanc Public Schools. He was a member of the Vintage Chevrolet Club of America and the Pepsi Cola Collectors Club. Rodney loved antique and vintage cars, painting, restoring vintage items like pedal cars and gas pumps. He was a master restorer of vintage gas pumps, pedal cars, tricycles, signs, etc., using his rebuilding, painting, hand lettering and pin-striping abilities. His brother Bruce and dozens of others are proud owners of his restored items. He won awards in over 100 car shows including the Sloan Museum Auto Fair and Flint’s Back to the Bricks with his 1949 Chevrolet Styleline Business Coupe. Rod and Denice enjoyed day trips with the Chevy club criss- crossing the state while antiquing and visiting car museums. However, his greatest joy in life was his family and grandchildren whom he always had homework for them to do.
Surviving are: Wife, Denice Thomas; Children, Tonya Blackwell, Tony (Billie Jean) Bentley, Terry Bentley; 23 Grandchildren; 21 Great Grandchildren; Siblings, Patricia Voorheis, Bruce (Dawn) Thomas, Mark Thomas; several nieces and nephews.
