Beloved father, grandfather and great-grandfather passed away Thursday, July 11, 2019 at his home. Age 96 years. The son of the late James M. and Neva (Beardsley) Dickenson, Jim was born January 26, 1923 in Flint, Michigan. He served in the U.S. Coast Guard during WW II. Jim married Pearl Severance on December 18, 1949. She predeceased him June 13, 2011. He was employed as a skilled trade electrician at Buick in Flint for 47 years until his retirement. Jim was a member of Berean Baptist Church in Grand Blanc. He enjoyed woodworking and loved spending time with his family at Bois Blanc Island.
Surviving are one daughter and one son, Marjorie Thompson, Saginaw; John Dickenson, Saginaw; four grandchildren, Michael (Kate) Thompson, Kelly Thompson, Melanie (Andrew) Starr and Jessica Dickenson; three great-grandchildren, Louis, Alexandra and Jackson; several nieces and nephews. Jim was preceded in death by a son, James M. Dickenson, a son-in-law, Richard Thompson, and by a sister, Wanda Johnson.
Honoring Mr. Dickenson’s wishes, cremation has taken place. A memorial service will take place 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, July 17, 2019 at Hopevale Church, 4873 N. Center Road in Saginaw. Rev. Billy Petty will officiate and military honors will be presented by V.F.W. Post #1859 and the U.S. Coast Guard. Friends may visit at The Snow Funeral Home, 3775 N. Center Rd., (between Shattuck and McCarty), where the family will be present on Tuesday from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. and at Hopevale Church on Wednesday from 10:00 a.m. until time of service. In lieu of flowers, those planning an expression of sympathy may wish to consider Wounded Warriors Project or Dogs in Honor.
