Valmore L. Chapin Sr. age 91, of Fostoria, MI. passed away October 3, 2015 at St. Mary's of Michigan Medical Center-Saginaw.
Family will receive visitors from 1-8 PM on Tuesday October 6 at the Avram Funeral Home, and on Wednesday at 12 noon until time of service at the church. There will be a Olive Branch Rebekah Lodge #120 and a Oddfellow Lodge #22 of Fostoria Memorial service 7pm Tuesday evening at the Avram Funeral Home
Funeral service will be at 1:00 PM on October 7 at the Fostoria United Methodist Church with Pastor Kay Leitelt officiating.
Burial will be in the Rich Township Cemetery at a later date.
Memorials may be directed to the Family Discretionary Fund.
Valmore was born June 21, 1924 in Fostoria, MI. to George and Florence (Springsteen) Chapin. He married Georgianna Conley on October 31, 1947. Val retired from Ternstedt, Flint as a foreman in machine repair, he also worked many years at the Art Lynch Ford Dealership in Lapeer, MI. He was a member of the Fostoria United Methodist Church where he was very active on many different boards. He also was involved with the Harrison Sno Riders, the Oddfellow Lodge #22 and Rebekah Olive Branch Lodge #120, of Fostoria. He enjoyed Saturday night Euchre parties, and Sunday morning pancake breakfast at the Lodge Hall. He was actively involved at the State and National level of the Fraternal Order of Oddfellows. He worked his way through the offices at the State level, reaching the Grand Master of Michigan and serving as a representative to the International Sovereign Grand Lodge. This allowed him to travel extensively across the country and Canada with all of the many friends and family he encountered through the Oddfellows. He also received the honor of Declaration of Chivalry. He also was a founding adviser of the Fostoria Jr. Lodge, to spend time with his grandboys.
He is survived by his children: Barbara (Howard) Williams, of Fostoria, MI. , Valmore (Veneita) Chapin Jr. of Fostoria, MI., George (Sukhi) Chapin of Fayettville, NC., Michael Chapin of Fostoria, MI. One sister, Patricia (Carl) Smith of Fostoria. Several grandchildren, great grandchildren, many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his wife Georgie in May of 2015, daughter in-law Cheryl Chapin, and brother Donald Chapin.
