ACRE, Steven Bruce, age 61, of Flint, passed away all too soon on Thursday, April 10, 2025.
Steve was born on June 24, 1963, to Bruce and Arleda Acre. He graduated from Kearsley High School and, in 1990, married the love of his life, Johnna. Together, they raised their family, in Davison, MI and shared a lifetime of memories. Steve worked at Ferguson Block Company for 38 years, dedicating himself fully to his work and recently entering a well-earned retirement. He was looking forward to spending more time with his wife, children, and beloved grandchildren.
Steve is survived by his wife and best friend, Johnna; his two daughters, Cynthia (Jamie Wright) and Nicole (Mindy); and his three grandchildren, Callie, Paul, and Finley, as well as bonus grandchildren— Kohen and Ezra. He is also survived by his father, Bruce; his siblings, Mark (Colleen) and Marie; and many extended family and close friends.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Arleda; his mother-in-law, Cynthia; and his nephew, Christopher.
Steve was an enduring husband, a proud and loving dad and Pa/Papa, a reliable uncle, a loyal brother/brother-in-law, and a caring son. He appreciated the simple things in life—fishing on a quiet morning, fixing whatever was broken, and savoring a good cup of Speedway coffee. He had a steady presence and a wily sense of humor, often teasing just enough to earn a giggle—especially from the kids. A little gruff around the edges but endlessly generous, Steve showed up with his hands ready to fix, build, or help, and a heart that held deep love for his family. He’ll be remembered for his quiet dependability, his quick wit, and the way he made people feel at home just by being there.
A funeral service will be held on Wednesday, April 16, 2025, at 1:00 p.m. at Swartz Funeral Home, 1225 W Hill Rd, Flint, MI 48507. Reverend Harold K. Polk Jr. officiating. Family and friends are invited to gather beginning at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, prior to the service.
Visitation will take place on Tuesday, April 15, 2025, from 2:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at the funeral home.
To honor Steve’s memory, the family requests donations in lieu of flowers.
