LEIGHTON, Charles R. – Of Flint, age 90, died Friday, August 18, 2017 at his residence.
Funeral service will be held at 11:30 a.m. Tuesday, August 22, 2017 at Mayfair Bible Church, 5339 West Pierson Road, Flushing, Pastor Dean Stewart officiating.
Entombment at Crestwood Cemetery with a military service under the auspices of VFW Chevrolet Post #3087 Honor Guard.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Mayfair Bible Church.
Visitation 9:30 a.m. Tuesday at church until the time of the service. There will be no visitation at the Swartz Funeral Home.
Charles was born in Flint, Michigan on February 21, 1927, the son of the late Albert and Levenia (Patterson) Leighton.
He served his country in the U.S. Army during World War II as a Sergeant.
He loved golfing, and was a member of Genesee Hills Golf Club.
Mr. Leighton retired as a Supervisor from GM.
Charles was active in the Dye High School Alumni Association.
He was a member of Mayfair Bible Church.
Surviving are sons, Bruce and wife Sharon Leighton,
Brian and wife Julie Leighton;
son-in-law, Ron Hatchard;
6 grandchildren; 7 great-grandchildren;
sister, Barbara Tewksbury;
many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Wanda; daughter, Linda Hatchard; two sisters and one brother.
