CELEBRATING THE LIFE OF LEWIS K. COOPER

It is with both sorrow and joy that we announce the passing of Lewis Kent Cooper, who left this world on Friday, April 4th, 2025 at the age of 66. While we will miss his laughter, we choose to celebrate the beautiful, full life he lived.

Born in Flint, MI on December 20, 1958 to Lewis and Norma (Polly) Cooper, Lewis was known as "Poncho" to his family. He had just obtained the title of Grandpa, one week prior to his passing.

Lewis graduated from Flint Northern High School and continued his education, earning a Bachelor's Degree at Ferris State University. His employment history consists of Herlich's Drug Store, and he was an automotive mechanic for the City of Saginaw and also the City of Flint, with combined service of over 40 years.

Poncho had a love of music, cooking, and fishing. He was a remarkable keyboard player and loved to tell the story of winning over "Sinbad" at a Ferris State Talent Show. His passion for cooking outweighed his love of music and he cherished hosting small gatherings and preparing dishes that we had never eaten before. He actually had a "cannibal pot" so-named because it was large enough to hold a small child. He owned every cooking gadget known to man. Poncho had an infectious laugh and a WEIRD sense of humor.

Lewis is survived by his family: Ashantae Johnson, daughter; Khaza Johnson, brand-new grandson; siblings: Gerry (Jenny) of Florida, Lynn, Maureen and Melita, both of Ohio; 1 aunt: Ernestine Walker, of California; 2 uncles: Bob Silk, James (Monica) Duell; life-long friend, Gordon Benton of Texas; and many, many other dear friends and relatives too numerous to mention.

Poncho was preceded in death by his parents, Lewis and Polly; sister, Kay; and nephew Eugene.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you honor Lewis by living fully, loving deeply and carrying forward the joy he so generously shared with all of us. A celebration of life will be held at a later date where we will gather to reflect on the memories and share our stories on the joy Poncho brought to our lives.

The family would like to thank the staff of Courtyard Manor for their care of Lewis.

May you rest in peace and know that you will be missed but never forgotten.
