Thomas, Nancy Carrol, of Flushing, age 79, died on Wednesday, July 8, 2026 at McLaren-Flint.
A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, July 14, 2026, at the West Flint Church of the Nazarene, with Reverend Drew Jolly officiating. Burial will take place at 2:30 p.m. on Tuesday at Great Lakes National Cemetery. Family and friends will gather from 4-8 p.m. on Monday at Caterer Family Funeral Home (formerly Rossell). Visitation will also be held from 10 a.m. on Tuesday at the church until the time of service at 11 a.m.
Nancy was born on July 24, 1946, in Sandstone, West Virginia to the late James Cooper and Billa Cales. Nancy moved to Michigan becoming one of the first (the other being the friend she moved with) out of state students to attend St. Joseph Hospital X-ray school graduating in 1966. At X-ray school she met, Doug Thomas. They would have been married 60 years on July 24, 2026. Nancy spent her career in various doctors’ offices creating family everywhere she went. Doug and Nancy opened their home and hearts to over 14 exchange students thus making the world a smaller place. In addition to the family members of their heart, Nancy truly exemplified Christ's love and made it nearly impossible to leave her house without a full stomach and heart as well as becoming a member of her and Doug's family. Nancy loved to travel the world and visited five of the seven continents with South Africa being her favorite place she traveled. She enjoyed crocheting, sewing and quilting. She liked to read and was quick to tell a story about herself although you might not be able to understand what was being said when she would laugh so hard, most times the story was not as good as the presentation. She loved to bake and cook and invite all of her loved ones into her home for massive holiday celebrations. She even made a cookbook for her friends and family to pass on her recipes. Until her asthma prevented her from doing it, she loved to sing. Although she no longer sang, she still enjoyed listening to music, especially Patsy Cline. Her faith was very important to her, staring each day with prayer and devotion. Above all, she loved her family fiercely and projected this love to all she met. To know Nancy was to know what it was to be loved.
Surviving are her husband, Doug; daughter, Kelli Peter, granddaughter, Addison Peter (partner Xavier Silva), children of the heart that were extremely special Lynnette LeClair, her husband Jim and children Kevin and Lydia, Chris Khoo, his wife Tracy Chan and their children Jerrod and Jaclyn and Gaye Watcharawipa, husband Mesa Menezo and children Adrian and Daniel as well as grandchild of the heart Mio McDaniel, her husband Drake and daughter Isla; brother, Darrell Cooper (wife Beverly), sister, Pam Shuck (husband Ronnie), neighbor that was like a daughter, Susan Stockton, good friend, Sandy and many nieces, nephews and friends.
Nancy was preceded in death by Brothers, Buddy and Larry Cooper.
