Our hearts are heavy as we share that Darla Jean Switzer, 61, of Burton, Michigan, passed away peacefully in her home surrounded by her family on November 3, 2025. Born on April 4, 1964, in Flint, Michigan, Darla lived every day boldly, brightly, and unapologetically herself.
If you knew Darla, you knew her laugh — loud, contagious, and impossible to forget. She was the life of the party and the first to light up any room she walked into. You could always spot her by her bright neon colors — she loved to stand out, and she sure did.
Darla was a proud single mom of four and the most devoted “Mema” anyone could ask for. Her kids and grandkids were her whole world and her greatest source of pride. She loved spending time with family, from rowdy game nights filled with laughter to long summer days soaking in the sun working on her tan. Cruising “Back to the Bricks” in her Ford Bronco brought her so much joy, as did creating her beautiful handmade jewelry — each piece made with care and love, just like everything she did.
She leaves behind her children, Jason Switzer, Justin Gear (Samantha), Jessica Switzer (Bobby), and Jared Gear (Shawna); her ten beloved grandchildren — Kaylee, Calin, Emma, Raylyn, Jaxon, Zachary, Carter, Cruze, Ellanora, and Finleigh; and one great granddaughter, Ember — who will forever carry her spirit with them.
Darla is preceded in death by her mother, Marlene Switzer; brother, Floyd; and nephews, Jim Bob, James, Zachary, and Scott. We find comfort knowing they are all together again.
A celebration of Darla’s life will be held on Saturday, November 15, 2025, at 3:00 p.m. at Calvary Community Church, 1201 W. 12th St., Flint, MI 48507. Flowers may be brought to the church, and donations can be made to her children.
Darla will forever be remembered for her bold spirit, her laughter, and her unwavering love for family. She taught us to live out loud, love deeply, and never be afraid to shine bright.
