Charles Raymond Evancho, born August 11, 1938, in Dearborn, Michigan, lived a life defined by love, faith, courage, and service. He was a devoted father, husband, friend, uncle, and godfather whose influence reached far beyond his immediate family. The proud father of four, Charlie also became a father figure and trusted mentor to countless others. Charlie dedicated much of his life to serving his country and community. He honorably served in the United States Army before beginning a distinguished 32-year career with the Detroit Fire Department. Through hard work, integrity, and steadfast commitment, he rose to become Chief of the Arson Squad, a position from which he retired after decades of faithful public service. Away from his duties, Charlie found his greatest happiness in simple and meaningful moments. He loved fishing, spending time with his family, and sharing the wisdom and humor that made him so deeply cherished. He led by example, teaching those around him the importance of loyalty, compassion, perseverance, and doing what is right. His unwavering faith in God guided him throughout his life and remained a source of strength and comfort.
Charlie was preceded in death by his father, Andy Evancho; his mother, Clara Evancho; his brother, Robert Evancho; his son, Kenneth Evancho; his wives, Diane Evancho and Susan Evancho; and his grandson, Matthew Evancho. He is survived by his siblings Joseph Evancho and Patricia Evancho (Robert) Marlow, his sons Paul Evancho, Michael Evancho, and Andrew (Andrea) Evancho, his grandchildren, Mitchell (Rachel) Evancho, Meredith Evancho (Daniel) Salyers, Brittany, Nicholas, Nadia, Ayven, Asher and his great-grandchildren, Lagertha and Lawrence.
Charlie leaves behind a remarkable legacy of service, devotion, and unconditional love. He will be remembered as an incredible role model, a man of deep faith, and a steady presence in the lives of all who knew him. Though he will be profoundly missed, the lessons he taught, the lives he touched, and the love he gave so freely will endure for generations.
