Melvin Dale “Tom” Sneed, age 96, was born June 27, 1930, and passed away on July 14, 2026. A resident of Atlas, Michigan, "Tom" will be remembered with deep respect and gratitude by all who knew him.
He served in the United States Air Force, a commitment that reflected a steady sense of duty and a life lived with quiet integrity. In the years that followed, the same gentle strength and kind-hearted spirit that guided his service could be felt in the way he carried himself and cared for those around him.
Tom married the love of his life, Melba, and they enjoyed seventy-four beautiful years together. He loved and cared for his family so deeply, and he cherished the time he spent with them. He found his greatest comfort in being present for the people he loved, offering warmth, patience, and a calm steadiness that made others feel at ease.
He also took joy in the simple, enduring pleasures of daily life. Tom was an avid gardener who tended a large, beautiful garden with care and pride. He enjoyed crossword puzzles and was great at them, and he was a huge fan of the Cleveland Indians—listening to 10,000 baseball games throughout his life. He also enjoyed golfing, embracing the game with the same unhurried appreciation he brought to so much else. Tom will be remembered as a kind, gentle and humble man, and his family will carry on these same enduring qualities.
Tom leaves to cherish his memory his loving wife, Melba; sons Dale Sneed and Steven (Jolynn) Sneed; daughter Sue Sneed-Willett; grandchildren Melissa (Scott) Seltzer, Nick Sneed, Lindsay Sneed, Brent (Christle) Sneed, Ashley (Justin) Wojcik and Sam Willett; eight great-grandchildren and two great-great grandchildren.
A funeral service for Melvin will be held at Hill Funeral Home - 11723 S. Saginaw Street, Grand Blanc, Michigan, on Monday, July 20, 2026, at 1:00 pm, with visitation beginning one hour prior.
Following the funeral, a Committal Service with Military Honors will take place at Great Lakes National Cemetery in Holly, Michigan. |
