Larry Lane Stearley, 79, of Terre Haute, IN (formerly of Swartz Creek, MI), passed away, Thursday, December 7, 2017. Cremation has taken place.
The family will receive visitors from 12:00 to 2:00pm and 4:00 to 6:00pm on Saturday, December 16 at Swartz Funeral Home, 1225 W. Hill Road, Flint, Michigan. Memorials may be made to the Humane Society of Genesee County.
Larry was born October 31, 1938, in Brazil, Indiana, where he graduated high school in 1957 and upon graduation served in the United States Air Force. He obtained Bachelors and Masters Degrees from Indiana State University. On April 6, 1967 he married Nancy Sherman at Woodside Church in Flint, MI. Larry taught in the Social Sciences department at Mott Community College for 33 years.
Larry will be remembered for his generosity and fierce loyalty, as well as his brash yet unrivaled sense of humor. Larry was a man who wore his emotions on his sleeve; he was dedicated to his family, his daughters, and his dogs. Larry left an indelible impression, as well as a host of one-liners.
Larry is survived by his wife Nancy (Sherman) Stearley and daughters Amy (Michael) May of Swartz Creek; Heather (Marko) Sertic of Waterford; and Jennifer Hartman of Grand Blanc. He also leaves behind grandchildren Alex and Garry May; Abbey, Emma, Kendall, and Benjamin Ledford; and Andy and Sidney Hartman. He is also survived by his twin brother Gary Stearley; sister Sally (Marvin) Jackson; sister Marjory Starnes (Jim Richardson); and brother Michael (Virginia) Short.
He was preceded in death by parents, Milton and Maxine Short; and grandparents, Harold and Eva Stearley, who raised him.
Though we will miss him terribly, Larry is now resting and has been lovingly reunited with his grandchildren Madeline, Lucas, and Andrew Ledford, as well as his beloved dogs Boots, Oreo, Emily, Jake, and Riley.
