Hugo Henry Ehlers, 88, of Davenport, died peacefully, Friday, April 01, 2011 at Genesis East Medical Center. Funeral services will be Tuesday, April 5, 2011 at 10:30 am at Newcomb Presbyterian Church in Davenport.
Visitation will be Monday from 5 to 7 pm at Runge Mortuary.
Burial will be in Davenport Memorial Park with military honors. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Newcomb Church or to Ridgecrest.

Hugo was born April 7, 1922 in Ivanhoe, MN, the son of Herman and Bertha (Lange) Ehlers. He served in the Army during WWII and served many years for the Honor Guard of the American Legion Post #26 in Davenport.

He was united in marriage to Gertrude Marie Clark on July 12, 1952 in Davenport. He was employed as an electrician at Sivyer Steel Casting Co. for thirty-three years, retiring in 1984. Prior to that, he worked at the J.I. Case Co. and the Rock Island Arsenal.

For four years, he served as an assistant Boy Scout Leader, drove the Red Cross mobile unit when needed and delivered meals. He enjoyed walking, square dancing and golf. He was a member of Newcomb Presbyterian Church for over fifty years. His current and past memberships include the Plus 60 Club, Friendship Force, the RSVP, the Putnam Museum, 50th Wedding Club, American Schleswig-Holstein Heritage Society and he served as treasurer of Mended Hearts for four years. He and his wife enjoyed traveling to forty-two countries and all fifty states.

Those left to honor his memory include his wife, Gertrude, Davenport, son, Timothy (Carla) Ehlers, Houston, TX; daughter, Pamela (Gavin) Slater, Broomfield, CO; grandchildren, Amanda and Evan Slater, Broomfield, CO; sister, Dorothy Dean, Marshfield, WI and several nieces and nephews. His parents and brothers Ottomar and Frederick preceded him in death.
