TAKISH, John Peter – of Flint, MI, age 67, passed away Wednesday, October 11, 2023. Cremation has taken place. Private inurnment, with Military Honors, in Great Lakes National Cemetery, 4200 Belford Road, Holly, MI 48442.
John was born in Flint, MI on August 17, 1956, son of the late Frank and Madeline (Derscha) Takish. He was a graduate of Southwestern High School Class of 1974. John proudly served his country in the U.S. Marine Corps. from 1974-1978. After his military service, John went on to have a fulfilling career at the Flint Journal, where he made many lasting friendships. John had a passion for collecting antiques and spent countless hours curating a remarkable collection that reflected his unique taste and appreciation for history. In addition to his love for antiques, John was an avid sports enthusiast. He enjoyed watching various sports, from football to baseball, and shared many memorable moments with friends and family as they gathered to cheer for their favorite teams. John will be remembered as a loving family member, a dedicated friend, and a respected colleague. He leaves behind a legacy of service to his country and a passion for collecting and sports that will continue to inspire those who knew him.
John is survived by 4 siblings, Frank (Kathy) Takish, MaryAnn (Tom) O’Boyle, Sandy (Doug) Rich and Mike (Kym) Takish; special people, Missy Mangold and Harmony; many other loving family members and good friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, Frank and Madeline Takish; sister, Pam Takish.
