GABERA, Richard “Pops” Frank – of Davison, MI, age 78, passed away Wednesday, March 31, 2021. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated 12 PM Wednesday, April 7, 2021 at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church, 404 North Dayton Street, Davison, MI 48423; Rev. Fr. Bob McGraw celebrant. Cremation will take place following the Mass. The family will receive visitors 4-7 PM Tuesday, April 6, 2021 and 11 AM- 12 PM Wednesday, April 7, 2021 at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society, in Richard’s memory.
Richard was born in Flint, MI on March 9, 1943, son of the late Frank and Thelma Gabera. In 1958, Richard was the golf caddy for Julius Boros during the first Buick Open at Warwick Hills. He was a graduate of Grand Blanc High School Class of 1961. After graduation, Richard attended Kendall School of Art and Design. He proudly served his country in the U.S. Army from 1961-1963 stationed at Fort Knox. Richard was a member of St. Robert Catholic Church and St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church. He was a life-long union member of I.B.E.W., U.A.W. and U.F.C.W., retiring in 2005 after 42 years of service. After retirement, you could always find Pops on the golf course, at the local fishing hole or hiking through the woods. He was a gifted artist and also had a green belt in Karate. Pops was most well-known for his humor and his smile. He was everyone’s best friend and was well loved throughout the community.
Pops is survived by 2 children, Richard Gabera, Jr. and Cassandra Gabera; 2 grandchildren, Jozlen Gabera and Max Gabera; sister, Thelma Elaine Gabera; best friend, Roy Graham; special cat, Luka; many other loving family members and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, Frank and Thelma Gabera; 2 brothers, James Gabera and Donald Gabera; sister, Elizabeth “Sis” Crowley and special nephew, Raymond Gabera.
