?Betty Jean (Spellmeyer) Hamilton of Flint, age 90, passed away peacefully at home on July28. A small gathering of friends and family will attend a graveside service at Sunset Hills Cemetery on 11 a.m. Monday, August 10, 2020. Time to be announced. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Community Missions Fund at Court Street United Methodist Church or Crossover Downtown Outreach Ministry in Flint.
Betty was born on December 29, 1929 to Raymond (a WWI Navy Veteran) and Jessie(Young) Spellmeyer in Normal, Illinois. She graduated from Bloomington High School in 1942 and earned an RN Diploma from Methodist Hospital in Peoria, Ill. Betty married Franklin W. Hamilton after a blind date and a 4 month courtship on September 29, 1956. Their 64 year marriage was one to be admired. Betty was happiest when spending time with her 3 children and their families. Betty also loved travel, any form of live theater, music, art fairs, the Crim race, Relay For Life, her Detroit tigers, the city of Flint and Frank’s poetry and stories. Remarkably, she was a 31 year breast cancer survivor with an infectious joy of life. Her generosity, courage, and loving spirit will be deeply missed.
Betty is survived by her husband, Franklin, her children, Doug (Diane) of Flushing, Karen DeGalan (Mark) of North Canton, OH , and Ann (James) Short of Fairfield, CA. ; her grandchildren, Craig (Trisha) Hamilton, Neil Hamilton, Luke DeGalan, Anna DeGalan , Jason (Lyn) Short, and Joel Short; and her 5 great grandchildren Natalie, Stella, Annalia, Andrew, and Morgan. |
