Mary Martha Schell 92 of Houghton Lake, formerly of Flint, Mi, passed away on Sunday October 22 at The Brook of Houghton Lake
Mary was born November 5,1924 in Paintsville, Ky, the 10th of 13 children of Louis and Almeda (Sheppard) Bradley. She grew up in Ky and attended Mayo Business School and then moved to Rochester, In. There she met Bill Schell. They were married on April 15,1950 in Kewanna, In. In 1952 they moved to Flint, Mi. She worked as a cashier for Kroger and later as a Deputy Treasurer for Flint Township. Mary moved to The Brook of Houghton Lake in June 2017. Mary was full of life, had a great sense of humor and was very funny. She was friendly and enjoyed talking to and being with people, especially her family. Her grandchildren and great grandchildren were the joy of her life. Mary loved music and woke up singing. Mary also enjoyed playing games, reading and using her computer.
Surviving Mary are her daughter Valerie (Roger) Kohn of Houghton Lake; Son Michael (Cathy Rogers) Schell of Burton, Mi; five grandchildren and nine great grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews; she was preceded in death by her husband Bill Schell; and 12 siblings.
A memorial/celebration of Mary Martha Schell will be held at the Swartz Creek First Baptist Church on Nov 18. Burial will be in Sunset Memorial Gardens, Flint, Mi. Christler Funeral Home, Houghton Lake Chapel is serving the family. Condolences can be sent to the family online at www.christler-holdership.com.
