Hope Lavon Hobson passed away at her home on Sunday, March 22, 2026, at the age of one hundred. Funeral services will be held at 1PM Sunday, March 29, 2026, at Birch Run United Methodist Church - 12265 Church St, Birch Run, MI. Pastor Jim Payne to officiate, burial to follow in Birch Run Township Cemetery. The family will receive visitors on Saturday at the O'Guinn Family Funeral Home in Birch Run from 5PM until 8PM.
Born November 15, 1925, in Champagne, Illinois to Fred and Jettie Marie (Jones) Muhleman, Hope moved to Birch Run when she was six years old and was a long time Birch Run resident. She graduated salutatorian from Birch Run High School in 1943. Hope married Ken Hobson on August 3, 1946 after his service as an Air Force P-51 pilot and time as a POW in WWII. They were married for forty-two years before he passed in 1988. Together, they raised seven children: Ken, Tom, Fred, Kris, Dave, Don, and Scott. The family has grown to include eighteen grandchildren and seventeen great grandchildren.
Hope was the organist for her church, Birch Run United Methodist, for over thirty years, was an avid golfer at Clio Country Club until the age of eighty-six, and enjoyed traveling, playing piano, singing, reading, games, cards, puzzles, and dominoes. Hope was of sharp mind and fiercely independent, living life the way she chose, sustained by her quiet, steadfast faith, which gave her the unique ability to adapt to life’s many changes and trials with acceptance and grace.
Hope is survived by her son Ken (Nancy), son Tom (Marcia), daughter Kris Kuiper, son Dave, son Don (Tracie), son Scott (Darlene), grandchildren Paul, Brian, Kiondra, Kellen, Kourtney, Karly, Mariah, Cody, Faith, Michael, Stephen, Laura, Rebecca, Sarah, Jeffrey, Tyler, Melissa, and great grandchildren Kaiah, Henrik, Theron, Elliott, Eliza, John, James, Sawyer, Luke, Caleb, Noah, Lucy, Joanna Hope, Micah, Luca, and Jonah. Hope was preceded in death by her son, Fred Hobson; husband, Ken Hobson; brother, Fred Muhleman; great grandson, Zander Hobson, son-in-law, Kurt Kuiper; grandson, Matthew Hobson; daughter-in-law, Elizabeth Hobson.
Hope will be deeply missed by her family and friends who are eternally grateful for her long, healthy life, well lived and well loved, and take comfort that she is reunited with her loved ones after so many years.
In lieu of flowers or donations, the family encourages you to go out to lunch with family, have coffee with a friend, or play a round of golf, all in remembrance of Hope, who was always a ready participant.
