JoAnn (Palek) Collier, 87, of Columbiaville, died peacefully at her home surrounded by her children on February 10, 2026. She was born June 11, 1938, in Flint, the daughter of Mary Jane (Mentus) Boyce and Joseph Palek. She married Wayne Collier on September 8, 1956.
She worked 20 years as the payroll supervisor of LakeVille Community Schools prior to retiring. She was also one of the former owners of the Backdoor Lounge.
JoAnn was a member of MASB (Michigan Association of School Boards), Michigan Licensed Beverage Association, served on the Board of Directors for Flint Bowling Association and was a former member of Columbiaville United Methodist Church.
She served her community as a past member of the LakeVille Board of Education, Sunday School Superintendent of Bethel Church (later Columbiaville United Methodist Church), Girl Scout Leader and homeroom mother for all four of her children.
JoAnn loved to travel, following her kids’ sports teams throughout the United States and Canada. She traveled to Peru with her friends and sister Rose and spent summers in Ashley, MI at her Uncle Fritz and Aunt Vickie’s farm. In addition to traveling, she enjoyed reading, crossword puzzles, bowling, gambling, riding in the Cadillac convertible with Wayne, playing piano and watching movies on her tablet. Her lifelong passion was riding horses—specifically her childhood horse Stormy. She was most proud of her children and grandchildren’s achievements and activities.
