WURTS, James Albert, Sr. – of Flint, MI, age 83, passed away Sunday, October 18, 2020. Cremation has taken place. A Private Memorial Service will be held on a later date.
James was born in Kayford, West Virginia on August 6, 1937, son of the late George and Katherine (Bradshaw) Wurts. He married Phyllis June Rogers on December 29, 1956 and she preceded him in death on December 6, 2018. James worked for the Coal Mines in Cabin Creek WV before moving to Flint where he hired in at Buick Motor Company before moving to and retiring from Flint Metal Fabricating in 2000 after 43 years. He was active in Union matters, worker pay, health and safety issues. He was also a devoted member of the Democratic Party. James retired from General Motors Flint Metal Fabrication in 2000 after 43 years of service. He enjoyed researching family history through his work in genealogy. James was also very mechanically inclined and was always interested in learning how things worked. He was constantly taking things apart and putting them back together, including cars, toys and, most recently, his hospital bed.
James is survived by 3 children, James A. Wurts, Jr., Karen Ruiz and Michael (Chris) Wurts; 6 grandchildren, Michael II, Jessica, Madison, David, Alanna and Cody; 5 great-grandchildren; 4 siblings, George Wurts, Kay (Richard) Cook, Kathryn Marie Lewis and Judy (Gene) Adams; many other loving family members and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, George and Katherine Wurts; wife, Phyllis Wurts and brother, John Wurts.
