Joan Lorrain Flood

Born: 9/14/1930
Died: 1/22/2026
Age: 95
Community: Grand Blanc, MI

Joan Lorrain (Ross) Flood, 95, passed away peacefully on January 22, 2026, while listening to her children in the next room. Up until the end, Joan maintained her kindness, grace, compassion, sense of humor and smile. Joan’s life can best be encapsulated in 5 words; Family, Friends, Flowers, Food and Fun. Music and dancing were always fun for Joan. She and her husband Joe, who passed in 1998, could really cut a rug back in the day. More recently she could be found in the great room at Abbey Park sitting in her walker toe dancing to the many entertainers who performed there. She quickly made friends at her senior living home becoming a favorite of the staff and residents. Joan was an avid reader who took great pride in maintaining the library at Abbey Park for many years also. We want to thank the Abbey Park Resident and Medical Staff, especially Jennifer, Heather, Wendy and Lisa. Special thanks to the Medical Team Hospice Flint for being there for Joan and her family.

Joan’s greatest passion was her love for her hometown Goodrich especially Erie Street, where she grew up and later raised her family. In 2018 she moved to Abbey Park along with her dear friend Helen Hoffman. She was very active in town politics, the Historical Society, the Women’s Club and Friends of the Library. You could find her working in her yard or sitting on her front porch, reading a book and visiting with her many neighbors. Recently Joan’s favorite saying has been, “You can take the girl out of Goodrich, but you can’t take the Goodrich out of the girl.”

Joan worked for the City of Flint District Court Probation Department, retiring in 1985.

Joan enjoyed traveling along with Joe across the U.S. in their motorhome with a group of crazy fun friends spending many nights around a campfire with lots of singing along with banjos playing. She is the last of that group to join them in the beyond. After Joe passed away, Joan became a snowbird heading for Arizona for many winters.

Joan was a beautiful seamstress and quilter. Throughout the years she made dresses and doll clothes for her daughters. Now, many quilts, quilted jackets and wall hangings have her name on them to be treasured by family and friends.

Joan was preceded in death by her parents, Claude and Hazel Ross, her husband Joseph Warren Flood, and her brother Jack Ross.

Joan leaves behind her daughter Lynn (David) Hoffman, son Larry (Carrie) Flood and daughter Laurie (Al) Vallarian. Grandchildren Kari (Scott Robertson) Hoffman, David Patrick (Amanda) Hoffman, Shawn (Jessie) Flood and Justin (RyAnn) Flood. Great Grandchildren Daxton, Ava, Brynn, Chance, Leeson, Milo, Reese and Ronan. Also, many other family and friends.
