Donald George Skuta, age 80 years, passed away peacefully December 20, 2017 at Wellsprings Lutheran Home in Frankenmuth. He was born July 22, 1937 in Pinconning, Michigan the son of Czech parents, Joseph and Mary (Hribek) Skuta. Don graduated from North Eastern Business College and attended Michigan State University where he earned a Bachelor’s Degree. On April 4, 1964 he married Linda Faye Wessel Baratti and they were blessed with two children, Andrew George Skuta of Grand Blanc, Michigan and Amy Marie Evans and Husband Robert of Florida. As well as three granddaughters, Jordan Marie, Emily Faye and Liliana Grace.
Donald played music from the time he was 15 years old until the time of his passing. His mellow sounds, his smile and happy attitude will be all be missed. While at MSU he played in every band possible, while also supporting himself during his five years there. Don played all across the county, in lots of Polka bands, starting with the Chachans of sterling, Michigan, Gene Gwizdala of Bay City, Johnny Stanulis of Saginaw, Leo Balcer of Lansing, Andy Nesters Band and too many others to mention. Don and his wife Linda played music for 44 years as “The Sunshine Duo” and “The Skuters”. Don is in the State of Michigan Polka Hall of Fame, he is one of the All Stars and he is a STAR to us, his family.
Don was preceded in death by his parents, Joseph and Mary; brothers, Robert and Joe Skuta. Private interment has taken place at Tuscola Township Cemetery. A Celebration of Don's life is being planned for 12 noon on January 20, 2018 at the Alvin F. Miller American Legion Hall (9890 Sanilac Rd Richville, Michigan 48758) one mile west of Fritz’s Family Resturant. Please come and enjoy the telling of his life and corny jokes and the gift that gave to all of us, his wonderful music. Final arrangements are entrusted to the Penzien-Steele Funeral Home, 149 N. Main St. in Vassar, Michigan 48768.
