In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the ALS Association of Michigan or the Chaffee County Search and Rescue North, located in Buena Vista, Colorado.
During his 67 years, Tomm treated those around him to his incredible sense of humor and infectious laugh. He was loyal, brave, kind, hard-working, trustworthy, tough as nails, funny, and stubborn as hell. Tomm fit the definition of a “True Irishman.”
Tomm’s life started out in Mount Morris, Michigan. He was born on January 19, 1958, to Robert and Evelyn (Cross) McLean, and was the youngest of five children. Tomm spent his youth competing in several sports, devoting most of his time to excelling in wrestling. He attended Mt. Morris schools until midway through his 12th grade year, when he switched to Flushing High School to continue pursuing his love of wrestling. He graduated from there with the class of 1976, where he still holds many wrestling records.
Into adulthood and throughout the rest of his life, Tomm kept his same tight-knit group of friends from school, a true testament to his character. Over the years, Tomm loved spending time outdoors - hunting, fishing, camping, and skiing. He also loved running, playing golf, and watching sports. Tomm enjoyed studying his family history and Ireland, he traveled there several times after retiring. Prior to that, Tomm worked his entire career at Buick, plant #05 where he was a Machine Repairman for 35 years. He made many new friends and knew someone everywhere he went.
Throughout his life, Tomm made perhaps the biggest impact as an amazing dad and grandpa - lovingly called “pop-pop” by his grandkids. He loved watching their sporting events, helping wherever he could, and had a hands-on way of showing them how to approach life and get the most out of this world. Tomm was the epitome of a “jack-of-all-trades” and loved sharing knowledge with those closest to him. He always made sure his kids knew how to take care of themselves. Tomm was also a great husband and made those around him feel special. He will leave a lasting legacy of laughter and love behind.
Left to cherish his memory are: Wife, Diane McLean (Foskett); Children: Kelly (Zakk) DeKalita and Ryan (Joelle) McLean; Step children: Stephanie (Todd) Cobanovich, Amanda (Larry) Gerow, and Sue Foskett; Grandchildren, Fiona, Milo, and Sulli DeKalita, Rylee McLean, Sienna and T.J. Cobanovich, Alexandra and Makayla Gerow, and Chloe Foskett; Great-grandchildren: Harper, McKenna, Kaden, and Grayson; Brothers: Mark (Kim) and Todd McLean; Sister, Mary Cummings. He was preceded in death by his parents, Robert and Evelyn McLean, and sister, Mona Austin.
Tomm wanted to say a special thank you to his family and life-long friends who made sure he didn’t go through his disease alone. Also, a huge thank you to the ALS Clinic at Henry Ford Hospital.
