Jerry Mansour Sr., age 96, of Fenton, peacefully passed away on Friday, July 10, 2026.
Jerry was born in Flint, Michigan, on December 6, 1929, to Najib "James" and Nahil (Karram) Mansour. He was the fifth of seven children born to a family whose story began in Nazareth, Palestine. In 1928, his parents immigrated to the United States with his older brothers, Albert and Tony, and his sister, Elizabeth. After settling in Flint, they welcomed Esther, Jerry, and his younger siblings, George and Georgette. Jerry was raised on the east side of Flint and graduated from Flint Central High School in 1948. He proudly served his country in the United States Army during the Korean War from 1951 to 1953. In 1957, Jerry met Frances Hope Fitzpatrick on a church ski trip. They were married on August 3, 1957, and shared 54 wonderful years of marriage.
After returning home from military service, Jerry worked for his father at the family’s Citizens Market grocery store in Flint. Together with his brother George, who was his lifelong business partner, he embarked on the first of many entrepreneurial ventures. They owned a fruit stand and deer processing center, which later evolved into a laundromat and grocery store, the Great Giant Supermarket, before ultimately founding Mansour Developments. Their vision and dedication to community development established them as leaders in commercial real estate. Jerry took great pride in the role he and his family played in shaping the landscape of Flint and Genesee County and adding value to the community. Jerry, along with his brother George, served as a mentor for his children, nieces and nephews, and many others, helping to nurture and encourage the next generation of business leaders. Jerry continued to work alongside his son, Jerry Jr., to share his knowledge, guidance, and wisdom well into his 90s.
Jerry was a founding member of Our Lady of Lebanon Church. He was involved with the Arab American Heritage Council and other organizations dedicated to preserving cultural heritage and supporting the community he loved. Together, Jerry and Fran dedicated themselves to their family, their church, and the people around them, leaving a lasting impact through their service and involvement.
Jerry remained active and engaged throughout his life. He enjoyed playing paddleball and tennis, activities that brought him lifelong friendships, including Paul Kachudas and brothers Ghassan, Khalil, and Nadim Saab. He cherished the camaraderie of his longtime poker groups and looked forward to regular breakfasts with friends and Friday night dinners with extended family, traditions that continued for many years. Through these
relationships, Jerry built a lifetime of friendships and memories that he treasured and that remain meaningful to those who knew him.
Jerry was a hands-on grandfather who treasured every moment spent with his grandchildren. They will fondly remember fishing and water sports at Silver Lake, carpentry projects, and the many hours he spent riding alongside them as they learned to drive. They will remember their “Baba,” who never missed a dance recital, soccer game, concert, graduation, or birthday celebration, and who celebrated each milestone with joy. His grandchildren will forever cherish his familiar “hey little kid” greetings, his quiet pride in their accomplishments, and his unwavering faith in each of them. They will always carry with them the love and support of their Baba, who believed in each of them every step of the way.
Jerry was preceded in death by his wife, Frances, in 2011. He was also preceded in death by his parents as well as his siblings, Albert, Elizabeth, Anthony, Esther, George, and Georgette.
Jerry is survived by his daughter, Michelle (Ben) Maltese; his son, Jerry Mansour Jr.; his grandchildren, Rachael (Chandler) Brown, Gabriel (Tatiana) Maltese, Nick, Ariana, and Karenna Mansour; his sister-in-law, Amal Mansour; and his former daughter-in-law, Furhut. He will be deeply missed by his many beloved nieces, nephews, and cousins, and by many dear friends and colleagues.
Whether through business, family, faith, or friendship, Jerry had a gift for bringing people together and nurturing relationships that endured throughout his life. He was known for his kindness, wisdom, and gracious presence, always taking the time to listen, share a thoughtful conversation, and make those around him feel valued. He was described by his family as “one of the greatest of a great generation” and “a kind and gentle anchor” for those who knew and loved him. While Jerry’s family will forever miss him, they are deeply grateful for the gift of his long, beautiful, and meaningful life. They will carry forward his legacy and strive to live by his wonderful example in all aspects of life.
The family would like to extend their heartfelt gratitude to the staff and caregivers at Vicinia Gardens; the nurses and team at The Medical Team Hospice; and Georgie McWhorter for the exceptional care, compassion, and kindness they showed Jerry over the past few years. Their dedication and support meant so much to Jerry and his family, and they are deeply grateful for the comfort and dignity they provided.
Visitation will take place Friday, July 17, from 3–8 p.m. at Swartz Funeral Home, 1225 West Hill Road, Flint. An Incense Service will be held at 7:30 p.m. at the funeral home.
On Saturday, July 18, a viewing will be held from 9:00–9:45 a.m., followed by Divine Liturgy at 10:00 a.m. at Our Lady of Lebanon Church, 4133 Calkins Road, Flint, with his nephew and godchild, Bishop Gregory Mansour, officiating. A Meal of Mercy will follow at Taboon Restaurant, 8235 Trillium Cir Ave, Grand Blanc, MI.
In place of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Our Lady of Lebanon Church or The Medical Team Hospice.
