HAWKS, Wesley L. – of Burton, age 84, passed away July 28, 2016 at Stonegate Health Campus. A Funeral Service will be held 11 AM Wednesday, August 3, 2016 at Davison United Methodist Church, 207 E. 3rd St., Davison; Pastor Kevin Miles officiating. Burial with Military Honors will be in Flint Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be 3-8 PM Tuesday at Allen Funeral Home, 9136 Davison Rd., Davison. There will be one hour of visitation prior to the service on Wednesday at the church. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Davison United Methodist Church or Davison Free Methodist Food Pantry.
Wesley was born in Flint, Michigan on February 2, 1932, son of the late Alfred and Hazel (Cupples) Hawks. He proudly served his country with the U.S. Air Force during the Korean War. Wesley married Joan Elaine Church on June 25, 1955 and she preceded him in death on September 12, 2015. He was a member of Davison United Methodist Church, the Masons, Elf Khurafeh Shrine and Elks Lodge #222. Wesley was a former member of the Bentley School Board. He enjoyed golf, playing cards and working outdoors, but his greatest love was playing with his great-granddaughter. Wesley worked for GM before retiring in 1984.
Wesley is survived by his son, Rodney L. Hawks (Kathy Roby); grandchildren, Danielle (John) Cheeney, Cassandra (Sean) Monahan and Brandon Hawks; great-grandchild, Peyton Cheeney; many nieces and nephews; special friends, Madeline Harvey and Roger Engstrom. He was preceded in death by his siblings, Alfred Hawks and Louise King.
