Stone, Richard D.(Dick) of Flushing, age 86, went to be with the Lord on Monday, September 3, 2018, at Hyde Park Assisted Living, Flushing. Cremation has taken place. A memorial service will be 2:30 P.M. Sunday, September 9, 2018 at Trinity Episcopal Church,745 E. Main St. Flushing, MI. Rev. Barbara Cavin will officiate. If desired, memorial contributions may be made to Heart to Heart Hospice, Flushing.

Dick was born in Bad Axe, Michigan, on August 28, 1932. He was the son of Seldon and Marge Stone. Dick graduated from Marietta (Ohio) High School where he met the love of his life, Anne Wiemers. They married in Marietta, Ohio, on June 6, 1954 and they both graduated Marietta College the following day. Dick graduated with a Bachelors of Arts in Social Work. Dick served in the U.S. Army from 1954-1956 He then graduated from the University of Chicago Graduate School with a Master of Arts in Social Work Administration. He worked as a social worker in LaCrosse, WI and Ft. Wayne, IN, before serving as Executive Director at Child and Family Services of Flint, MI, from1969-1989.

In his retirement Dick worked at Wild Birds Unlimited, enjoying his coworkers and customers sharing his passion for wildlife and all things birds, camping, boating, playing bridge with friends and traveling the world with his loving wife, Anne. Dick’s greatest joy was spending time with, and serving, the wife he adored and was married to for 62 years. Dick and Anne volunteered with Flushing Seniors and Law Enforcement Together (S.A.L.T.). Dick was a member of, and served on the Vestry, at Trinity Episcopal Church, Flushing, MI.

In the end, Dick viewed his greatest legacy as his family. He expressed great pride in all of them. He was preceded in death by his wife, Anne, on November 5, 2016. He is survived by his children, David and wife Dee Stone of Mattawan, Richard D. Stone, Jr. and wife Mary Gusie of Grand Blanc, Ginnie and husband Kevin Doerfler of Portage; grandchildren, Steven (Amanda) Stone of Mattawan, Lindsay Stone and Michael Stone, both of Grand Rapids, Tara (Jon) Blahnik of Grand Rapids, Lauren Doerfler of Portage, Courtney (Dan) Lupu of Texas, and Ryan (Lisa) Gusie of Clarkston, MI; great-grandchildren, Allie, Dylan, Taylor, and Gavin Stone, Jayden, Jackson, Drake, and Brady Blahnik, Roland Lupu, Addi and Madilyn Gusie.
