ORR, Donald – of Flint, age 91, died Monday, December 25, 2023, at his residence. Funeral service will be held 1PM Saturday, December 30, 2023, at the O’Guinn Family Funeral Home in Montrose. Burial at Flint Memorial Park. The family will receive visitors at the funeral home from 11AM until the time of service. In lieu of flowers, those desiring may make memorial contributions to the American Red Cross.
Donald was born December 15, 1932, in Flint, to the late William and Alfreda (Penzenhagen) Orr. He attended Northern High School in Flint and worked at General Motors for 37 years until his retirement in 1989. Donald proudly served in the United States Army during the Korean War. On October 13, 1956, he married the love of his life, Dorothy Collins, and together they shared 67 years of marriage. Donald and Dorothy were members of the St. Paul Lutheran Church in Flint. Anyone who knew Donald also knew that his passion was fishing. He was an avid fly fisherman and enjoyed many hours on his favorite water, the Rifle River. Once retired, and as he got older, Donald spent his time fishing for bass and other lake fish from his retirement home in Fenton. He also enjoyed bowling with his wife, and they were members of a bowling league in the Flint area for many years. While he did not attend college, Don had a sharp mind and was an avid reader. He closely followed current event, and frequently had his thoughts published in the Flint Journal opinions page. While seemingly quiet and reserved, Don loved to dance at weddings and special events making sure that no one wanting to dance went without a partner (with his wife's blessing, of course). He was family oriented and a hands-on dad, who never said no to a game of catch, a swim in the lake or shooting some hoops. Donald was a wonderful man who will be deeply missed by all who knew him. The family wishes to extend a sincere thank you to Harmony Hospice Care for their loving and compassionate care during Donald’s final days.
Donald is forever remembered by his wife, Dorothy Orr; Children: Daniel (Ann) Orr, Julie Moritz, and Jennifer Orr; Grandchildren: Stephen Orr, Justin Moritz, Anton Moritz, and Adugna Moritz; Beloved companion, Whitey; Many extended family members and wonderful friends. Donald was preceded in death by his Parents; Brothers: William Orr, Raymond “Gus” Orr, and Robert Orr; Sister-in-law, Barbara Spencer; Companion, Mickey.
