Richard L. Schmier of Flint, formerly of Chesaning, age 80, died Thursday, March 15, 2012 at Fostrian Manor. Funeral services will be held 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, March 20, 2012 at Rossell Funeral Home. Rev. John Amstutz officiating. Burial will be 2:30 p.m. at New Calvary Catholic Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4-8:00 p.m. Sunday and 3-8:00 p.m. Monday and 10:00 a.m Tuesday until the time of service at the funeral home.
Richard was born in Goodrich, MI on January 9, 1932, the son of Walter and Ann (Krawczyk) Schmier. He married Barbara Jean Evans in Memphis, TN on April 25, 1953. She preceded him in death on May 22, 1997. Richard was a retired Tool and Die Maker from Buick and a graduate of GMI. He was a U.S. Marine Veteran, having served during the Korean War.
Richard is survived by: five children, Richard Schmier, Jr., Debra L. Schmier-Smithson, Daniel J. Schmier and Michael J. Bryant, Douglas M. and wife Suzanne Schmier, Dean M. and wife Kara Schmier; many grandchildren and great-grandchildren; step-brother, Jack Schmier. He was also preceded in death by his parents.
