LATIMER, Maurice Clayton died Monday, June 15, 2026, in a hospital in Grand Blanc. Born in Hartland, Michigan, he graduated from Stockbridge High School and Michigan State University, where he received a bachelor’s and master’s degree. A lifelong advocate for children, he worked in Lansing and Flint area schools as a special education teacher, school superintendent and elementary school principal. For more than twenty years, he was a foster parent for numerous children needing a new place to live. He served as president of the Salem Housing Task Force to help people find homes. Trained as a dietary manager, he worked in several nursing homes after his retirement from the school system and became national president of the Dietary Managers Association.
He is survived by his wife, Larcia, his sister Connie, his sons Marlan and Matthew, his daughter Jackie, 11 grandchildren, and 9 great grandchildren. Preceding him in death were two of his children, Timothy and Jennifer, and great grandson Jared.
Funeral service will be held at 11am Friday, June 26, 2026, at Our Risen Lord Lutheran Church, 4040 Lapeer Road, Burton.
Burial in Flint Memorial Park Cemetery.
Visitation will be held from 5-8pm Thursday, June 25, 2026 at the Swartz Funeral Home, 1225 West Hill Road, Flint and at 10am Friday at the church until the time of service.
In lieu of flowers, please send memorial donations to Salem Lutheran Church in Flint, Michigan.
