ROLAND, Barbara M. – of Clio, age 100, died peacefully surrounded by her loving family, on Monday, December 22, 2025, at Maple Woods Manor of Clio. To honor Barbara’s life, a funeral service will be held at 12PM Tuesday, December 30, 2025, at the O’Guinn Family Funeral Home in Clio, with burial at Crestwood Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association.
Barbara was born on June 5, 1925, in Clio, Michigan to the late James and Nettie (Wright) Hicks, and grew up on the family farm. She loved to share memories of her farm life that centered around her “ma” and “pa”. Barbara married James Tithof in 1946, in Chesaning, and together they welcomed a daughter, Marlene. James preceded her in death in 1947. She later married Harry Waters, and together they had one daughter, Linda. Harry also preceded her in death. She later found love again with Jess Roland, with whom she shared three children: a son, Keith, and twin daughters, Jeanette and Janet. Barbara was a member of the Clio Eagles Ladies Auxiliary #3609 and the Flint Eagles Aerie #629, where she enjoyed spending time with friends, socializing, and dancing. She especially loved to dance and enjoyed polka music. Barbara also enjoyed fishing and playing the piano. A true spitfire, she was never afraid to speak her mind or share exactly how she felt, and was known for her fiery charm and lively spark.
Surviving are: Children: Marlene Derck, Keith (Evelyn) Roland, Jeanette (Thomas) Wandrie, and Janet (Dave) Haggadone; Grandchildren: Megan (Michael) Slocum, Sydney Merrithew, Brian (Victoria) Roland, Ashley Roland, David Gann II, Jesse Gann, and James Derck; Several great grandchildren, nieces, and nephews. Barbara was also preceded in death by Her daughter, Linda Waters; Sisters: Geraldine Fejes and Laurine Hewitt; Brothers: Kenneth Hicks and Earl J.
