Ronald Albert Henige, age 78, of Flint Twp, was formerly a 50-year resident of Flushing, Michigan. He passed away on Saturday, June 25, 2022 at Bella Vita Senior Living after a long struggle with Progressive Supranuclear Palsy (PSP), a neurological disease similar to Parkinson’s.
Funeral Mass will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday, June 29, 2022 at St. Robert Catholic Church, Flushing. Fr. Jonathan Perrotta will officiate. Private burial at St. Robert Cemetery will follow at a later date. Visitation will be 3-8 p.m. Tuesday, June 28 at Rossell Funeral Home with a 7 p.m. Rosary service. An additional visitation will be held at the church at 10 a.m. Wednesday until the time of the Mass.
Ron was born in Flint, Michigan on August 21, 1943 to Albert and Louise (Hemker) Henige and grew up in New Lothrop, Michigan. He married Marilyn Trecha on April 8, 1967 and settled in Flushing where they raised their family. Ron retired in 1999 after a 37-year career at General Motors as a journeyman pipefitter. In retirement, Ron and Marilyn wintered in McAllen, Texas for 17 years where Ron was active in the local Habitat for Humanity and volunteered for many years at an orphanage in Mexico.
Faith was important to Ron. He was a 50+ year member of St Robert Parish and most recently also a parishioner of St Pius X.
Ron was also active in St Robert Men’s Club, Knights of Columbus 8489, Genesee County Habitat for Humanity, Buick Club of America, and Vintage Chevrolet Club of America. He was most proud of his five children. He enjoyed family vacations, travelling throughout all 50 US states and internationally. Most special, his entire family went to Hawaii to celebrate his 50th wedding anniversary in the 50th state (a wonderful gift from his kids). Ron enjoyed the simple things of life, remodeling old homes, restoring antique cars, volunteering, reading books about history, and playing cards and games with his grandkids.
Ron is survived by his wife of 55 years, Marilyn Henige; children, Laura (Michael) Gaffigan, Gary (Sandra) Henige, Victoria (Scott Bullock) Henige, Shelley Henige, and Jeffrey (Stephanie) Henige; 13 grandchildren; and siblings, Helen Cottenham, Marilyn (John) Ecken, Patrick (Nancy) Henige, William (Esther) Henige, and Larry Henige; sister-in-law, Marjorie Henige; as well as many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; his brother, Lloyd Henige; sister-in-law, Joyce Henige; brother-in-law, Harvey Cottenham; and nieces, Cindy Cottenham and Lynette Jackson.
The family would like to thank Mid-Michigan Hospice and Bella Vita Senior Living for their exceptional care of Ron for over two years.
