Rita was born June 1, 1939, in Flint, to the late Wyman and Edith (Fritzler) Jennings. She grew up in Montrose and graduated from Hill McCloy High School with the class of 1952, and she went on to earn her bachelor’s degree in education from Michigan State University before returning to her hometown where she taught English and Art at Kuehn-Haven Middle School. Rita was a former member of Montrose United Methodist Church before converting to Catholicism and becoming a member of Good Shepherd Catholic Church. She enjoyed shopping and keeping her hands busy with watercolor painting, stained glass, basket weaving, quilting, and knitting. She also loved playing her dulcimer, reading a good book – especially historical fiction, spending time by the water, and traveling the world. Rita was never one to leave the house without her favorite lipstick, and she certainly knew how to make an entrance wherever she went. She cherished the special bond she shared with her lifelong girlfriends and always looked forward to their weekly get-togethers, but nothing brought her more joy than spending time with her grandchildren. Rita was an incredible woman who can never be replaced, and she will be dearly missed by those who knew her.
Rita is forever loved by: Children: Lee Jennings (Debra) Polzin, Kelly Dodd Polzin, and Tonia Rae (David) Cole; Grandchildren: Leta Jennings Polzin, Kristen Lea (Adam) Powell, Kelli Lorraine (Andrew) Fras, Mickey Stiles, and Murphy Stiles; 14 great grandchildren; many lifelong friends; Beloved companion, Sugar. Rita was preceded in death by: Parents, Wyman and Edith Jennings; Brother, Douglas Jennings. |
