William "Bill" Floyd - Age 82, of Linden, died February 16, 2026. Funeral services will be held 3PM Saturday, February 21, 2026 at Sharp Funeral Homes, Fenton Chapel, 1000 Silver Lake Rd., Fenton. Visitation will be held from 1PM until the time of service.
"I was born in Lapeer, MI on May 15, 1943 to Harold and Florence Floyd. When I was five years old we moved to Loon Lake in Linden. I have always lived on the water, either in a house or on my boat, Tin Man. I married Lonnie Crandell and was blessed with two children, Tracey and Jeff.
In 1977 I founded Wm. Floyd Heating Co, which is now owned by my son, Jeff. Other businesses over the years - Wm. Floyd Builder, Schlotzsky's, North Bay Shore on Lake Fenton, real estate holdings in Michigan and Florida, Liberty Shores in LaBelle, FL on the Caloosahatchee River and I owned a race horse, Rockin' the Blues, that one didn't turn out too good.
In 1982 I married Paula, who has two children, Jeff and Joe Davis. I delighted in telling people I then had four kids - one in college, one in high school, one in grade school and one in kindergarten!
When I retired in 2000, Paula and I traveled extensively on our boat, Tin Man. We cruised the Great Lakes, the North Channel, the inland waterway from Michigan to Florida, both coasts of Florida and the Bahamas. Entering New York Harbor from the Atlantic and cruising by the Statue of Liberty remains a highlight.
We moved full-time to Vero Beach, FL in 2015 for several years. While in Vero, I volunteered for the Indian River County Volunteer Ambulance Squad. I drove an ambulance that served the elderly and indigent to and from medical appointments. It was the most rewarding experience I ever had.
Dear friends I have made along the way - Tom and Mary, Carol and Jack (my fishing buddy), Steve and Kathy (dock mates in Fort Myers whose opening line to me was "Tin Man is he looking for his brain or heart"), Don and Bonnie.
After some health issues, it was back to Michigan where I live right where I started, on Loon Lake. It's been a full circle life for me. In passing, I would like my ashes to remain here on Loon Lake.
I leave my wife of 43 years, Paula; daughter, Tracey (Pete) Carpenter; son, Jeff (Terri) Floyd; step-sons, Jeff (Stephanie) Davis and Joe (Anne) Davis; beloved grandchildren, Sean (Kelsey) Carpenter, Meaghan (Dylan) Lawrence, Emily Floyd, Noah (Megan) Floyd, Abby (Nick) Garber, Juliana, Drew and Ellery Bush, Benjamin (Meghan) and Jonathan Dzido; the sweetest great-grandchildren, Finley, William, Lucille, Harrison and Lydia.
I have had a great life with my great family. Rather than flowers, please consider a donation to the Indian River County Volunteer Ambulance Squad (https://volunteerambulancesquad.org/) or Wounded Warrior Project (https://www.woundedwarriorproject.org/)." |
