PYLAND, William Chester – of Burton, age 90, passed away July 25, 2014 at home surrounded by his loved ones. A Funeral Service will be held at 5 PM Sunday, July 27, 2014 at Allen Funeral Home, 9136 Davison Rd., Davison; Chaplain Hank J. Messing officiating. Burial, with Military Honors will be at a later date in Big Flat Cemetery, Big Flat, Arkansas. Visitation will be from 11 AM until time of service on Sunday. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society.
Chester was born in Monette, Arkansas on October 26, 1923, son of the late James and Pearl (Andrews) Pyland. He proudly served his country with the U.S. Army from 1949-1951 during the Korean War. Chester married Thelma Jo Wilson on February 18, 1956 and she preceded him in death on October 17, 1990. Chester grew up on a farm, which gave him the love of gardening. He was a practical jokester until the end. Chester worked as a custodian for the IMA Auditorium before retiring in 1975.
Chester is survived by his children, Michael (Berta) Pyland, Mark (Carol) Pyland and Rhonda (Dale) Bowman; grandchildren, Brittany, Joseph and Maria; several step grandchildren; brother, Wimp Pyland. He was preceded in death by his brothers, Vernard Leonard Pyland and James Hampton Pyland.
